TBILISI, December 10 (Itar-Tass) — Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili’s special representative for relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze, “will hold a meeting with Russia’s representative this week,” Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Pandzhikidze told reporters on Monday.
This meeting “will be, most probably, technical,” she said. “This will be an exchange of opinions and positions between the sides.”
“We do not expect any concrete results from this meeting, it will be, most probably, technical, but the fact of holding this meeting will be a positive step,” Pandzhikidze said.
“Zurab Abashidze himself conducts direct contacts with Russia’s representatives,” she said without specifying whom Abashidze will meet.
The diplomat noted that “the meeting will take place in a European country during this week.”
Early on Monday Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Defence Minister Irakli Alasania, said in his comments on Russian Foreign Minister Serge Lavrov’s statement that “it is important for Georgia to build up normal relations with Russia.”
He emphasized that “the process of normalizing bilateral relations can be started from restoration and development of economic and cultural relations.”
