DUBLIN, December 6 (Itar-Tass) – Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the special envoy the UN and the Arab League, Lakhdar Brahimi on Thursday held a meeting in Dublin where adjusted their positions as regards the situation in Syria, Brahimi told reporters after the completion of the talks.
He said he has initiated the trilateral meeting since the U.S. and Russia have interests and influence in Syria. The discussion was devoted to how the U.S., Russia, the UN, and the Arab League could launch the process that would prevent Syria’s split and start up peaceful settlement of the crisis in the much-troubled country.
The sides will continue discussing the issue with all the countries concerned, Brahimi said.
He said no sensational decisions had been taken at the meeting but the negotiating sides had agreed on the critical character of the situation in Syria and the importance of working together in order to find new and creative ways of taking developments under control.
