NALCHIK, December 6 (Itar-Tass) — The Vulcan-4 interception plan was activated in Nalchik after the murder of a TV reporter. The police have blocked the possible fleeing ways for the criminals, the press service of the Interior Ministry of Kabardino-Balkaria told Itar-Tass.
“In cooperation with other law enforcement agencies a set of search operations and other special events are underway to track down two criminals who on December 5 at about 21:00 MSK in Kirov Street in Nalchik staged an armed attack on correspondent of the Vesti KBR daily news program - 28-year-old Kazbek Gekkiyev,” an official of the Interior Ministry said.
The journalist died on the spot from gunshot wounds. The investigation team has been working at the scene. During a preliminary examination of the scene the police found two 9 mm cartridges.
The Investigative Committee of the republic said that Gekkiyev was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen near 171, Kirov Street. He was returning home after an evening TV program. Earlier, extremists issued threats to kill two other TV presenters of a branch of the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK), and the leadership had to remove them from the program.
The Russian Investigative Committee (SK) has sent to Nalchik a group of experienced investigators from the SK central staff to assist the investigation of the criminal case over the murder of VGTRK TV presenter in Nalchik Kazbek Gekkiyev, SK spokesman Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass.
“The investigation considers different versions of the murder, including it could be related to the professional activities of Gekkieyv,” Markin said.
