Popular anchorman of local TV killed in North Caucasus

At the time of reporting, a group of operatives and investigators was working at the spot of the crime

NALCHIK, December 5 (Itar-Tass) – A resounding crime has been committed in Nalchik, the administrative center of the North Caucasian region of Karachai-Cherkessia where unknown gunmen shot and killed a popular local television anchorman, Kazbek Gekkiyev, sources at the regional division of the Russian State Broadcasting Company VGTRK told Itar-Tass.

The crime was committed after a regular nighttime regional news show.

“We’d finished the program and were going away home when several shots were made at Kazbek,” said the so-anchor of the newscast, Marina Yaroslavskaya.
