Man with Russian, US citizenship arrested in St. Petersburg for rehabilitating Nazism

He pleaded partially guilty

ST. PETERSBURG, December 10. /TASS/. Yury Malev, a citizen of both the US and Russia, has been arrested in St. Petersburg, he is accused of rehabilitating Nazism following a post with a photo desecrating the St. George ribbon, the joint press service of the city's courts said.

"St. Petersburg’s Smolninsky district court considered the motion of the investigation to choose a measure of restraint in the form of detention in respect of the citizen of Russia and the United States Yury Malev, accused of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Rehabilitation of Nazism"). The court granted the motion of the investigation, arrested Malev until February 7, 2024," the statement said.

The press service added that Malev was detained on December 8, the same day he was charged. He pleaded partially guilty.

According to the investigation, on June 8, 2022, Malev, knowing well that the St. George ribbon is a symbol of military valor and glory, posted on his Odnoklassniki account its photo with an inadmissible signature, using foul language.

Shortly before the celebration of Victory Day, on May 8, 2023, Malev posted another photo on the same social network, which, according to the investigation, shows clear disrespect for society, days of military glory and memorable dates of Russia associated with the defense of the Motherland, and insults the memory of the Great Patriotic War, as well as the defenders of the Motherland and their feelings.
