On May 26, 2016, Tula played host to the fifth visiting session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) ‘Russia’s Regions: New Areas of Growth’, arranged by the Roscongress Foundation in association with the Russian Export Centre (REC) and the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI). The event was held with the assistance of the Foreign Investment Advisory Council (FIAC) and EY.
The discussion focused on the search and promotion of new investment and export projects in the Russian Federation, their impact on the comprehensive growth of the economy of Russian regions, and instruments to generate foreign investments. Special attention was paid to the competitive edge of the regions of the Central Federal District, promotion of Russian goods and services in foreign markets, and facilitation of their access to international markets.
Attending the event were Alexei Dyumin, Acting Governor of the Tula Region, Pyotr Fradkov, CEO at the Russian Export Centre, Alexei Komissarov, CEO at the Industry Development Fund, Alexander Stuglev, CEO at the Roscongress Foundation, Vera Adayeva, Deputy CEO for Priority Projects at the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, Aide to the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Central Federal District Alexander Piskunov, Yelena Zosimova, head of Cargill Russia, Head of the Transportation, Infrastructure and Government & Public Group in the CIS Olga Arkhangelskaya.
The session featured a briefing of the Russian Export Centre on financial and non-financial support for exporters provided by the Centre on a one-stop-shop basis, and the ‘Marketing of Territories’ briefing session.
According to Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the SPIEF Organizing Committee, SPIEF sessions in Russian constituent entities are action-oriented activities designed to provide practical assistance to regions in their work to promote territories and attract domestic and foreign investors in order to implement major projects. “We are going to continue to develop the format of visiting SPIEF sessions with a view to improving the effectiveness of the implementation of the economic and investment capacity of Russian constituent entities,” he said.
So far, SPIEF has had visiting sessions in the Volga, Ural, South, and Central Federal Districts. More than 1,200 people have been involved in the events.
The Tula meeting became the concluding event in the cycle of visiting sessions ahead of the jubilee 20th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which will take place on June 16–18, 2016 at the ExpoForum Convention and Exhibition Centre, its central theme being ‘Capitalizing on the New Global Economic Reality’. The SPIEF will for the first time feature the exhibitions SPIEF Investment Projects and SPIEF Business Expo, which offer the best networking opportunities for prospective investors and companies.
