Afghan Wireless Launches 3.75G+ Services

First Cellular Telephony Company To Bring True Mobile Broadband To Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its extensive 2G network and successful mobile money initiative (MyMoney), Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) – Afghanistan's first mobile operator – continued its pioneering role in the Afghan telecommunications sector by becoming the first mobile telephony company to bring true mobile broadband services to Afghan consumers with its launch of 3.75G+ services in Kabul today.

Having completely rebuilt its radio and core network in Kabul using the latest technology from leading vendors from around the world, AWCC's service launch makes it the only operator in Afghanistan providing the latest Dual Carrier-HSPA+(High Speed Packet Access plus) technology at each of its 3G sites in Kabul City. This solution enabled for the first time in Afghanistan, permitting download data rates of up to 42 Mbps per cell, giving AWCC customers the fastest 3G service in Kabul.

Afghan Wireless also implemented Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) as part of its 3G deployment, making AWCC the first and only telecom company with an all IPv6 network in Afghanistan today. With this solution, AWCC provides all individual or organization a public IP address which will be directly accessible from anywhere in the world, making it easier for AWCC subscribers to manage activities like home automation, file sharing, online gaming, peer-to-peer programs and other applications more securely than with IPv4.

According to AWCC Managing Director Amin Ramin, "We have enjoyed the privilege and responsibility of being the industry leader in Afghanistan's telephony sector for more than a decade, and we are proud to become the first true mobile broadband provider in the country by the globally-accepted definition of the word "BROADBAND". We are delighted to provide these upgraded services to our subscribers in Kabul and, whether its through improved internet surfing, online gaming or great video viewing experiences in either SD or HD format, we are sure subscribers will quickly come to understand the true meaning and high speed of 3.75G+ technology and mobile broadband."

Mr. Amin added, "As part of our transition to 3G, we also upgraded our internet capacity into the country, and built a superior and fully redundant backhaul transmission network in and around Kabul to support the smooth and reliable flow of large volumes of data which is one of the primary requirements of mobile broadband. This will enable us to reliably deliver large volumes of high quality data at true broadband speeds, 24x7, 365 days a year."

AWCC plans to launch this same quality of mobile broadband service in Kandahar in Q1 2015, and is scheduled to roll it out to all other major cities in Afghanistan throughout 2015.
