FEFU to Launch Russia's First Resident Assistant Program

Program to teach leadership skills to students, help FEFU build on its international reputation as a leader in higher education

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, May 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) is bringing to campus a new type of program in which student leaders, called "resident assistants," help manage dormitories and plan social, educational and career success events. Campus Advantage Russia, a subsidiary of Campus Advantage, a higher education company based in the United States, is spearheading the efforts as a consultant to OMC Campus Management. Campus Advantage Russia is providing strategic guidance for the new program that will help FEFU establish and exemplify a student life experience that rivals other world-class institutions while attracting more international students.

The new program will start in the fall of 2014. OMC Campus Management is looking for the best and brightest student leaders to serve as resident assistants. The new resident assistant program is the latest effort by OMC Campus Management to help FEFU become a highly respected, international university.

Through a competitive recruiting and selection process, the strongest student leaders will be chosen to grow, lead and guide the new program. In return, they will receive a credit toward their room and board along with compensation based on their performance. They will also benefit from receiving training in leadership, resume building, communication, customer service, marketing, property leasing and other job skills to help them in their college life and future careers. Most importantly, these first FEFU resident assistants will create a long-standing tradition for the university and help to shape the future for their fellow students.

Daniel Oltersdorf, senior vice president of residence life for Campus Advantage–Russia, said that with the addition of a resident assistant program, FEFU is adopting an approach taken by leaders in higher education around the world.

"We are excited to introduce this structure to the FEFU campus and students and believe it will enhance the quality of life and the success of the students at FEFU," he said. "FEFU already has a strong spirit of leadership and volunteerism. The addition of this new program will only enhance the university's existing opportunities for students to succeed and to develop as leaders".
