The 8th APEC Small & Medium Enterprises Technology Conference and Fair in China in June

APEC-SMETC is dedicated to providing a platform for APEC members to showcase new technologies and products

YIWU, China, April 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The 8th APEC Small & Medium Enterprises Technology Conference and Fair (APEC-SMETC) will be held from June 19 to 22 in Yiwu, China. APEC-SMETC is one of the major events initiated and supported by APEC, and is dedicated to providing a platform for APEC members to showcase new technologies and products, as well as to promoting technological communication and economic cooperation among the region's SMEs to help them thrive internationally.

The 8th APEC-SMETC will continue to uphold the theme of "technology promotes the economy, cooperation creates the future" to showcase the new products and technologies of the region's SMEs as well as the achievements in the construction of a public service platform among APEC member economies. The organizing committee of the conference plans to provide 1,200 exhibition booths with displays focusing on electronic appliances, high-end technological equipment, industrial designs, e-commerce, smart logistics, public service platforms and the best among the newest products and innovations created by participating SMEs.

Compared to previous sessions, the current APEC-SMETC places more emphasis on the needs of and issues faced by SMEs in member economies, as well as on technological innovation and technology exchanges, with the aim of commercializing, industrializing and globalizing scientific and technological findings. All 1,200 booths have been reserved -- more than 400 of which have been booked by non-APEC organizations.

The 8th APEC-SMETC will include a SME technology exchange meeting themed "Driving Industrial Transformation through Technological Innovation." The meeting will cover current issues facing SMEs, match technology sources available within APEC countries and globally with those in APEC SMEs, and improve their market presence and promote their development within APEC. To encourage technological innovation among SMEs in the Asia-Pacific region, the organizing committee of the 8th APEC-SMETC will present an "APEC SME Technology Innovation Award."

Yiwu is the venue for the 8th APEC-SMETC. As the world's largest consumer goods purchasing center, the city is home to a large industry cluster consisting of small businesses dealing in a range of commodities, fostering a large-scale industry chain. Yiwu has established trade ties with more than 219 countries and regions. Over 500,000 businessmen from all over the globe travel to Yiwu yearly.
