Aleris Names Philippe Meyer VP & Chief Technology Officer

CLEVELAND, Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Aleris today named Philippe Meyer vice president and chief technology officer.  Meyer will build an internal technology organization, including Centers of Excellence for the company's aerospace and automotive applications, and Research & Development.

"Philippe brings to Aleris a distinctive blend of research and development, and technology commercialization experience in the aluminum industry," said Steven J. Demetriou, Aleris chairman and chief executive officer.  "His expertise in developing strategic technology will help fuel Aleris' organic growth and strengthen our ability to customize solutions for customer needs."

Meyer has 30 years of experience in the aluminum industry, most recently as technical director for Montupet, one of the world's largest producers of aluminum-cast automotive products, where he built a global technology organization that worked in engineering partnerships with customers.  Prior to that, he held management positions in research and technology with Pechiney, a Constellium predecessor company, where he helped develop an aluminum lithium alloy for aerospace applications and precision aluminum-forging technology for automotive products.

Meyer has a master's degree from Ecole Nationale Superieuro des Mines in Paris, France.
