"Interest in our FatTwin platform's advanced technology and operational savings has grown since our initial launch and we are excited to deliver higher compute capacity and performance along with maximum energy and cooling efficiency in volume to customers worldwide," said Charles Liang, President and CEO of Supermicro. "For high capacity needs, the 4U, 4-node FatTwin supports an impressive 8 hot-swap 3.5" HDDs per node. For high performance applications, FatTwin can be configured to support up to 135W CPUs. Our unique FatTwin architecture provides customers the lowest TCO while boosting performance and new models are just around the corner, optimized for HPC with high-density GPU support and Hadoop, big data analytics applications."

The 4U FatTwin is available in an 8-node configuration with 6x 2.5" hot-swap HDDs per node (SYS-F617R2-RT+/SYS-F617R2-R72+) and a 4-node version with 8x 3.5" hot-swap HDDs per 1U node (SYS-F627R3-RTB+/SYS-F627R3-R72B+). Both 8-node and 4-node platforms support dual Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 series processors per node. 256GB in 8x DIMM slots and up to 512GB of 1600MHz memory in 16x DIMM slots are also supported depending on configuration. Maximum energy efficiency and high-availability is achieved with 4x 1620W Redundant Platinum Level (94%+) power supplies in 8-node and 4x 1280W Redundant Platinum Level (95%) Digital power supplies in 4-node systems. Uptime security can be further increased and additional UPS expenses can be eliminated using Supermicro's high-efficiency Battery Backup Power (BBP™) modules. New to both FatTwin 8-node and 4-node platforms is the addition of Front I/O configurations optimized for rapid serviceability and maintenance in large scale Data Centers. In addition, individual nodes can now be purchased for onsite spare backups. Supermicro also offers power, BIOS, and firmware management through its Data Center Management software.

FatTwin delivers maximum performance, efficiency and versatility for scientific, research, engineering, and enterprise organizations requiring high-performance, scalable computing and storage solutions for mission-critical applications. The platform is optimized for process intensive database driven applications including Big Data and Hadoop analytics, gas and oil exploration, HPC, computational finance, search engines, design and modeling, simulation and many other applications.
