In the snapshot, UBM Canon summarized research from a Eucomed study and combined it with its own findings from recent EMDT audience and MEDTEC attendee surveys. The snapshot solidifies the fact that Europe holds the 2nd largest market for medical technology in the world, accounting for approximately 30% of the global total and growing at more than 5% per annum. It also states that around 8% of medtech sales are reinvested into the research and development of new and improved products, making up more than euro 7.5 billion. This places the sector in the top tier of research investment in the EU.
Based on recent 2012 MEDTEC Event visitor profiles, relatively most MEDTEC attendees represent companies with end products for electronic equipment, surgery, orthopaedics, general hospital use, dental, and cardiovascular categories. And when EMDT readers were asked which products or services they typically recommend, purchase, or specify, the top three answers were design and R&D services, manufacturing services, and materials.
