7th Conference on Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan

Moscow, April 17. On 17 April, in Moscow, the 7th Conference on Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan came to a close. Heads of departments, representatives of regions, heads of public associations and companies of the Republic of Tajikistan arrived in Moscow for the event. The organizers were the Ministry for Economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Ministry for Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, with support from the Roscongress Foundation. As part of the two-day programme, a number of agreements on cooperation were signed and roundtables were held on aspects of co-operation between the countries in agriculture, logistics, trade, education and culture. Day one of the Conference saw the Youth Forum, which had been integrated into the business programme for the first time.

During the Conference days, by invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon made an official visit to Russia.

The plenary session of the 7th Conference on Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan was opened with words of welcome from the presidents of both countries. The welcome from Russian President Putin was read out by Minister for Economic Development of the RF Maxim Oreshkin, while that from President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was read out by Aide to the President of Tajikistan on economic matters Ashurboy Solehzoda. Speeches were made at the plenary session by Minister for Economic Development of the RF Maxim Oreshkin, Minister for Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, Governor of the Omsk Region Alexander Burkov, Chairman of the Sogdiyskiy Region Radjabboy Ahmadzoda and others.

"Interregional collaboration is a very important part of the cooperation that takes place between our countries. 60 Russian regions maintain active economic ties with Tajikistan. Several tens of agreements and memorandums are in effect. Of course, this interaction will continue to grow in the future", Oreshkin commented.

On the side-lines of the Conference, a number of agreements and memoranda were signed. A cooperation agreement was signed as well between JSC Russian Export Centre and the Export Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in the sphere of comprehensive support for Russian-Tajik foreign trade projects. LLC WEB Engineering signed memoranda of cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic Tajikistan.

Summing up the results of the Russian-Tajik dialogue, the Ministers for Economic Development of the Russian Federation and Tajikistan noted that more work was needed on simplifying mutual access to each other’s markets, creating favourable conditions for joint production and promoting growth of mutual investment and strengthening of business contacts.
