The Roscongress Foundation will provide grants to Russian social projects with a total of RUB 2.5 million set aside for their support. The criteria for selecting grant applicants were announced in Sochi last year during the work of the Social Impact Lounge at the Russian Investment Forum. Projects were selected over the course of the year in five categories: social services, culture, medicine, youth initiatives, and social entrepreneurship. The award ceremony will be held at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi in February 2019.
“Issues of social development are a priority for state policy, and their successful resolution demands close cooperation between all levels of society, from the non-profit sector, government, and business. The Roscongress Foundation’s social projects help build this dialogue and contribute to the successful resolution of social problems throughout the country,” Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova said.
Projects were selected by representatives of the expert community in the non-profit sector and the communications industry and socially oriented companies and government agencies such as the Presidential Grants Foundation, the Council on Social Guardianship under the Government of the Russian Federation, and the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education under the Presidential Council for Science and Education among others.
The evaluation criteria took into account the uniqueness of the project, its contribution to the development of the chosen work, its social significance, and the possibility of further scaling the project at the federal level.

As part of the Roscongress Foundation’s Russian and international events, we strive to provide comprehensive support for existing and developed projects primarily aimed at supporting areas of social significance for the state,” Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Roscongress Foundation Alexander Stuglev said.

We have provided grants to projects in various fields, including medicine, youth initiatives, and social communications. I am sure that this will not only provide momentum for the large and vital work that is being carried out by non-profits but will also contribute to the development of more systematic philanthropy in our society,” Deputy CEO, Director for the Socio-Economic Agenda Elena Marinina commented.
The grant in the nomination for ‘Forming a Culture of Social Inclusion’ was awarded to the All-Russian Organization of Parents of Disabled Children and Disabled People Over 18 (VORDI). The jury made note of its Parental Thanks Award project, which sought to identify professionals, including those in education, who made significant contributions to the development of children with mental and other disabilities, provided assistance to their families, and took part in their lives.
The grant for the ‘Youth Initiatives’ nomination was awarded to the Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University for the creation of a ‘From Youth Models to Arctic Drones’ school for modelling unmanned aerial vehicles in arctic conditions. The school provides schoolchildren and youth with the technical and engineering base necessary to create unmanned aerial vehicles, from the initial planning stage to the manufacture of full-size models. In the future, these models can be used by government agencies and large companies.
The ‘Molecular Genetic Tumor Markers in the Context of Maximal Implementation of the Reproductive Function’ project of the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (EIMB RAS) was awarded the grant in the ‘Innovative Medicine’ nomination. The project is aimed at identifying new cancer-associated genes and identifying functional abnormalities in malignant tumours as well as at studying patients at risk with the use the latest genomic technologies, which should in certain cases determine whether the disease is hereditary, an important factor in family planning for determining the optimal treatment strategy.
The ‘Society Must Honour the Right to Life’ project received a grant from the Roscongress Foundation in the ‘Social Communications for the Promotion of the Philosophy of Palliative Care and Participation in its Provision’ nomination. The project’s main goal is to overcome social stereotypes regarding children with serious illnesses, to popularize volunteering, and to involve citizens in charity programmes. The project is being implemented by the Children’s Hospice Charitable Foundation, headed by Alexander Tkachenko, a clergy member of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on Charity, Civic Education, and Social Responsibility.
The grant in the ‘Post-Residential Support for Young Women Orphans’ nomination was awarded to the Spread Your Wings Children’s Centre for Social and Legal Aid for the implementation of the Little Mother project. The Little Mother project is aimed at developing a system of social assistance for young mothers in the Smolensk region who find themselves in a difficult life situation. Assistance provided to young mothers will be aimed at preventing social orphanhood in the families of project participants, protecting the rights of mother and child, developing parental competence, and resolving participants’ housing problems and problems in completing education and employment.
