Sports club in Damascus comes under shelling by militants; one civilian killed

"The situation in Eastern Ghouta is still tense," chief of the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria Yuri Yevtushenko said

MOSCOW, March 25. /TASS/. One civilian was killed and six more were wounded as a sports club in Damascus came under shelling by militants, chief of the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria Yuri Yevtushenko said on Sunday.

"The situation in Eastern Ghouta is still tense. After a brief lull following the invigoration of the negotiating process, shelling of Damascus and its suburbs has resumed. During the past day, the building of a sports club in Damascus’ al-Mezza district came under missile shelling. One person was killed and six civilians were wounded. The building was damaged," he said.

"Shelling of Damascus’ residential quarters can be seen as provocative aiming at breaking down earlier agreements on normalizing the situation in Eastern Ghouta," he noted.
