Veteran politician expects former Soviet territories to reunite with Russia

According to Zhirinovsky, the regions reuniting with Russia could receive a broad autonomy

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Leader of Russia’s Liberal-Democratic Party (LDPR) Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who is expected to be nominated to run for president on Wednesday, has said he expects the former Soviet territories to reunite with Russia.

"Russia is an indivisible country, here in the Russian Federation we will be happy to wait for some of the former Soviet territories to return and voluntarily choose a form of cooperation with Moscow," he said addressing the 31st LDPR Congress.

According to Zhirinovsky, the regions reuniting with Russia could receive a broad autonomy.

"They could have maximum independence, except for matters that are controlled by Moscow <…> those include foreign policy, defense and finances," the LDPR leader said.
