Diplomat brands US refusal to withdraw from Syria as contempt for international law

The deputy foreign minister pointed out that the United States did not have the Syrian government’s invitation to send troops to the country

MOSCOW, December 13. /TASS/. Washington’s refusal to withdraw troops from Syria reflects the neglect of international law, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on Wednesday.

"We believe that it reflects the neglect of international law, which is typical of Washington," he said in response to a question by a TASS correspondent.

The senior Russian diplomat pointed out that the United States did not have the Syrian government’s invitation to send troops to the country. "They don’t have a legal reason to be there," Ryabkov stressed.

US Department of State Spokesperson Heather Nauert said earlier that the United States’ work in Syria was not finished yet.
