Lavrov calls on UNESCO to take more active effort to restore Aleppo

ROME, December 1. /TASS/. Russia calls on UNESCO to take a more active part in the restoration of historical sites in Syria’s Aleppo, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.

"We call on UNESCO to work more actively on the restoration of historical sites in Syria, in particular, in Aleppo," he said at the Mediterranean Dialogues international conference in Rome.

Earlier, UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay told the United Nations Security Council that the six UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Syria had been seriously damaged in the armed conflict and the ancient city of Aleppo had been practically razed to the ground.
