US unlikely to grant control of missile shield elements to anyone — Lavrov

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Moscow has strong doubts that Washington would agree to transfer control of its anti-ballistic missile defense system to anyone, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with his Japanese counterpart Taro Kono on Friday.

"Knowing Americans, we have very serious doubts that they would agree to transfer control of any ABM element to anyone whosoever," Lavrov noted.

"In Europe, they have declared just pro forma the creation of the NATO missile shield system," the minister said.

"But it is well known to everyone that all the levers linked in one way or another with the decision-making on the functioning of this NATO system are in the Americans’ hands," Lavrov said.

"I think this will also be the same in Asia, to be honest," Russia’s top diplomat said.
