Establishment of ‘Barents Davos’ to help find new forms of cooperation in region — Lavrov

The diplomat also noted that Moscow suggested establishing a youth forum that would embrace national, regional and municipal levels of cooperation

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Establishment of a high-level regional Barents Sea forum would make it possible to find innovative forms of cooperation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday in an interview with the International Barents Secretariat Web Portal.

He reiterated that during its chairmanship in the Barents/Euroarctic Council (BEAC), Russia came forward with the initiative to establish a high-level regional forum, a kind of "Barents Davos", which would function on a permanent basis and bring together politicians, representatives of the governments, business, academic and scientific communities, as well as media for the full-fledged discussion of all regional agenda. "Such forum would no doubt be helpful in identifying innovative cooperation forms, including the development of cooperation roadmaps," Lavrov said.

"This is quite a far-reaching task, that is why it can only be accomplished through a joint effort," he stressed.

The diplomat also noted that Moscow suggested establishing a youth forum that would embrace national, regional and municipal levels of cooperation.

"We consider this as an investment in our future cooperation. It is important that young people from our countries regularly communicate with each other, discuss acute issues of the regional agenda," he noted.
