Russian, French lawmakers to discuss situation in Ukraine and Syria

On Thursday, the French delegation will be received by the State Duma leadership

MOSCOW, March 16. /TASS/. The situation in Ukraine and Syria will be among the topics to be discussed at a Russian-French seminar on inter-parliamentary cooperation that will be held on Thursday at the Russian State Duma lower parliament house.

"A representative delegation of French lawmakers led by Thierry Mariani has arrived in Russia on a three-day visit," Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the international committee of the Russian State Duma lower parliament house, told journalists earlier. "The delegation is planned to have meeting and consultation at both houses of the Russian parliament and, probably, at the foreign ministry."

On Thursday, the French delegation will be received by the State Duma leadership. "The French lawmakers will also take part in a seminar that will discuss issues of anti-terrorism efforts, the situation in Syria and in Iraq, political processes in the Middle East, settlement of the crisis in southeastern Ukraine and current issues of Russian-French inter-parliamentary cooperation at the current stage," Slutsky said.

"Bearing in mind the fact that the big Russian-French parliamentary commission has not been working for three years, I think we will have a good exchange of opinion that will make it possible to maintain the Russian-French inter-parliamentary cooperation even in conditions of the sanctions," he added.
