Russian, Syrian diplomats agree to continue coordination on Geneva talks

GENEVA, February 28. /TASS/. Russia will continue close coordination with the Syrian government on the talks in Geneva, Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva said on Tuesday following meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and head of the Syrian government delegation and Permanent Representative to the UN, Bashar Jaafari.

"Gatilov and head of the government delegation, Bashar Jaafari, have ageed to continue close coordination on the intra-Syrian negotiations," the permanent mission said in a statement posted on its official Twitter page.

Gatilov arrived in Geneva on February 27 to take part in the high-level segment of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session. He is also holding consultations with the participants in the intra-Syrian negotiations. Shortly after his arrival, he met with UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura.

Sergey Vershinin, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Middle East and North Africa Department, is in Geneva as well.
