Senior Russian diplomat, US expert discuss cooperation on Syria

The sides have discussed the situation unfolding in the Middle East, including ways to overcome Sunni-Shia differences in the region

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met on Monday with the founder and chairman of Stand Up America non-profit organization, Paul Vallely, to discuss prospects for Russian-US cooperation on Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

The US expert and Bogdanov, who is also president’s special envoy for the Middle East and Africa "discussed the situation unfolding in the Middle East, including ways to overcome Sunni-Shia differences in the region, as well as prospects for Russian-US cooperation with an aim to contribute to an early settlement of the crisis in Syria," the ministry said.

Retired Army Major General Paul Vallely arrived in Moscow to take part in the 6th Conference of the Valdai Club Middle East Dialogue.
