Russia welcomes Trump’s statement on need to fight terrorism, diplomat says

TEL AVIV, February 22. /TASS/. Russia has praised the announcement by US President Donald Trump about the need to fight terrorism, but the ongoing process of putting together a new administration in Washington has inhibited full cooperation between the countries. Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov told TASS after his visit to Israel.

"Before taking office Trump provided many positive signals, he stated that avenues of cooperating and fighting against the common scourge (of terrorism) were needed, and during talks with our president, this topic was brought up as a crucial one," Syromolotov elaborated. Moreover, the diplomat stated that "it is difficult to talk about it now, since departmental teams on combating terrorism have not been formed yet in the US." "As for me, I don’t know who will be my counterpart there," he added.

The deputy foreign minister hoped that this cooperation "will take on a civilized framework" shortly.
