US top diplomat heads to Germany, where he may meet with Russia’s Lavrov

This will be Tillerson's first official trip as the US Secretary of State

WASHINGTON, February 14. /TASS/. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will pay his first official foreign visit to Bonn, Germany, on Wednesday to participate in the G-20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

"While in Bonn, Secretary Tillerson will participate in several G-20 sessions as well as bilateral meetings," Department of State acting spokesperson Mark Toner said in a statement. "This will be his first official trip as Secretary of State."

According to the statement, Tillerson will meet with counterparts from the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Oman, United Arab Emirates, and United Nations on the sidelines of the meeting to discuss the situation in Yemen.

A diplomatic source in Washington earlier told TASS that the first meeting in person between Tillerson and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov may take place in Bonn.

The G-20 (Group of Twenty) is a key forum for international economic cooperation that includes large developed and developing economies representing more than eighty percent of global gross domestic product (GDP). Germany holds the rotating G-20 Presidency this year.
