TOKYO, December 12. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov is likely to meet with his Japanese counterpart, Takeo Akiba, this week in the run-up to a visit to Japan by Russian President Vladimir Putin, NHK television said.
The report said economic cooperation and the territorial issue, which revolves around the four South Kurile string of islands - Kunashir, Iturup, Shikotan, and the Habomai archipelago, are the likely items for discussion at the meeting.
President Putin’s visit to Japan is scheduled for December 15 and December 16. Official functions of the first day will take place in Nagato, the home town of Japanese Prime Ministo Shinzo Abe. On the next day, Putin will come to Tokyo.
