Top diplomat calls on NATO countries to stop military build-up near Russia’s borders

"Otherwise, it seems as if the alliance seeks to create a new military reality and wants Russia to take it into consideration but this is not going to happen," the diplomat said

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. NATO countries should stop their military build-up near Russia’s borders, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said addressing the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Hamburg.

According to the minister, building an indivisible security community is Russia and NATO’s common goal. "To pave the way, it is necessary to abandon bellicose rhetoric and mutual accusations and begin an equal and mutually respectful conversation," Lavrov noted. "That will allow us to create a favorable political atmosphere for an objective comparative analysis of the European countries’ military capabilities."

"Meanwhile, the first step is obvious: NATO countries should stop their military build-up near Russia’s borders so that at least the late 2013 situation could be restored," the Russian top diplomat stressed. "Otherwise, it seems as if the alliance seeks to create a new military reality and wants Russia to take it into consideration but this is not going to happen."
