Moscow court extends arrest for Ukrainian national accused of plotting attacks in Crimea

MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. Moscow’s Lefortovo court on Monday extended until March 7 the term of arrest for another Ukrainian national accused of plotting acts of sabotage and terrorist attacks in Crimea, thus sustaining a motion of the FSB Federal Security Service, Tass reports.

"The court ruled to sustain the motion and extend pre-trial restrictions for (Yevgeny) Panov as detention in custody until March 7 2017," judge Margarita Kotova voiced the court ruling.

Also on Monday, the district court has extended the term of arrest for Ukrainian national Andrei Zakhtey accused of plotting acts of sabotage and terrorist attacks in Crimea.

Thus, the Moscow Lefortovo district court sustained the motion of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). "The court ruled to uphold the investigators’ motion and extend the arrest term for Andrei Zakhtey till March 7, 2017," Judge Margarita Kotova said.

The court session was held behind closed doors.

On August 10, Russia’s FSB announced the detention of a group of saboteurs in Crimea. Apart from that, it said it had prevented terrorist attacks in Crimea that had been plotted by Ukraine’s main intelligence directorate. According to FSB, the targets of the terrorist attacks were Crimea’s critical infrastructure and vital facilities. The detained men, Andrei Zakhtey and Yevgeny Panov, admitted their guilt and were arrested. They face charges of committing acts of sabotage in an organized group (part 1, article 30 and part 2, article 281 of the Russian Criminal Code).
