Russian top diplomat, UN head to discuss regional conflicts on November 24

MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. On November 24, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold a meeting with the UN Secretary-General Designate Antonio Guterres in Moscow, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

"The parties will be discussing pressing issues concerning the UN’s activities, first and foremost, ways to settle the most violent regional conflicts as well as boosting UN efficiency, prospects for the organization’s reform and Russia’s cooperation with the UN Secretariat," the diplomat said.

On October 13, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution appointing Portugal’s former Foreign Minister Antonio Guterres as the ninth UN Secretary-General. His term will begin on January 1, 2017, and expire on December 31, 2021.
