Diplomat praises Russian-Chinese counterterrorism cooperation

A diplomat says the issue of ratifying the agreement between Russia and China on cooperation in fighting terrorism is gaining a bigger importance

MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. Russia and China develop advanced counterterrorism cooperation, Deputy Foreign Minister on counterterrorism Oleg Syromolotov told a meeting of the parliament’s upper house (Federation Council) on international relations on Monday.

"No wonder, lately we have been developing our counterterrorism cooperation with China, every year we have meetings of the bilateral working group on fighting terrorism at the level of foreign ministries’ department heads, involving competent authorities," the diplomat said. "We have been developing effectively our dialogue at all multilateral platforms - UN, SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization), APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation), where the Chinese counterparts have been supporting our initiatives consistently and energetically."

On the background of this advanced counterterrorism cooperation "the issue of ratifying the agreement between Russia and China on cooperation in fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism is gaining a bigger importance," he said.

"The agreement contains a provision on exchange of operative information, on legal support, regular meetings and consultations, and on joint efforts to reveal and stop criminal action, related first of all to plotting and execution of terrorist attacks," the deputy foreign minister said.
