Success of political process in Syria depends on anti-terrorism efforts — diplomat

Russia praises the Damascus government’s readiness for talks with the opposition

MOSCOW, November 10. /TASS/. Moscow would like to make a reminder that the success of the political process in Syria depends on the efficiency of struggle with terrorism, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

"Most recently, Western media have been silent about what’s happening in Syria," she said. "They don’t cite any facts or evidence. Their objective is to whitewash the terrorists as much as possible and to show them off as ‘moderates’."

The problem is these strivings do not make the situation for the militants’ victims any easier, Zakharova said.

"The Russian Aerospace Force and the Syrian Air Force have refrained from strikes at the eastern districts of Aleppo as of October 18," she said. "We praise the Damascus government’s readiness for talks with the opposition and for the expansion of the practice of ‘local reconciliations’."

"Only a broad political process is the guarantor of peace settlement and the maintenance of statehood," Zakharova said.
