MOSCOW, November 9. /TASS/. Russia is ready to do everything to return the relations with the United States to the growth trajectory, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.
Putin made this statement at a ceremony of accepting credentials from ambassadors.
"Russia is ready and wants to restore full-format relations with the United States," the Russian leader said.
"Let me repeat. We proceed from the fact that this will be an uneasy way but we’re ready both to cover our part of the distance and do everything to return the Russian-US relations to the steady development trajectory," Putin said.
The Russian president has heard Trump’s statements about his intention to restore relations between Moscow and Washington and he realizes that it will be difficult, but Putin reiterated that he was ready for that:
"We heard the statements made by the then US presidential candidate, which were aimed at restoring relations between Russia and the US," Putin noted. "We understand and are aware of the fact that this will be a difficult path considering the current degradation of the Russian-US relations."
Putin recalled that the US presidential election ended a few hours ago. He noted that Russia had followed the election campaign closely. "I want to congratulate the American people on the completion of the electoral cycle, and Mr. Donald Trump - on winning this election," the Russian leader said.
Speaking about the degradation of relations with the US, the Russian president once again stressed that "it is not our fault that the Russian-American relations are in such a state."
