MOSCOW, October 27. /TASS/. Russia’s embassy in Manila is extending all possible consular assistance to a Russian national detained in the Philippines to see to it that his rights are not infringed upon, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
"On October 5, a Russian national, Mr. Kirdyushkin, was detained at Manila’s international airport on suspicion of drug trafficking," she said. "The Philippines’ law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the case."
She said the Russian embassy is extending all necessary consular assistance to the man and maintains close contact with the investigation to ensure observance of his rights and legal interests.
"Apart from that, contact has been established with his lawyer to help him collect necessary materials to defend the Russian citizen. The Embassy’s officers have visited the Russian national at the detention center several times," Zakharova said.
