GENEVA, October 27. /TASS/. Russia’s Federation Council (uppers house of parliament) Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko has invited Speaker of the People's Council of Syria Hadiya Khalaf Abbas to pay an official visit to Russia. Their meeting took place on the sidelines of the 135th assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva.
The Federation Council head noted that the meeting with the Syrian parliament speaker was brief due to time constraints during the assembly. "I would like to invite you to pay an official visit to Russia so that we can talk properly," Matviyenko said. "This is an honor for us," Hadiya Khalaf Abbas responded.
Russia’s upper house speaker highlighted the partnership between the two countries and said that the Russian people were taking to heart the tragedy that the Syrian people were going through.
