MOSCOW, October 21. /TASS/. The Russia’s State Duma on Friday granted an application by former speaker of the lower house of parliament, Sergey Narshkin, on terminating his powers as a State Duma member.

Naryshkin won the parliamentary elections in the Kingisepp one-candidate consistuency (in the Leningrad region). He was also the head of the United Russia group in that region.

On September 22, he was appointed by the Russian president to the post of Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.

When the issue was discussed, the floor was given to Chairpeson of the State Duma Committee on Family Affairs, Women and Children, Tamara Pletnyova. "A lot of thanks to Sergey Yevgenevich (Naryshkin). It was a pleasure to work with him. He is a very intelligent and cultured person," she said, wishing the former speaker further success in his future career.
