Putin hopes Lausanne talks on Syrian settlement will be successful

Putin expressed hope that the meeting in Switzerland would contribute to the crisis settlement

MOSCOW, October 12./TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin expects talks on the Syrian settlement, due in Lausanne on Saturday, will produce good results.

In a conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande "Putin expressed hope that a meeting of the heads of foreign policy agencies of Russia, the US and a number of key countries of the region, scheduled for October 15 in Lausanne, will be efficient from the point of view of real contribution to the settlement in Syria," the Kremlin press service said.

"The leaders exchanged views on the Syrian issue, marking the importance of coordinating efforts of the international community in fight against the terrorist threat," the Kremlin added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported earlier in the day that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry will hold ministerial talks on Syria with the participation of key countries of the region to consider possible additional moves to create conditions for the Syrian settlement. Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and possibly Qatar will take part in the meeting in Swiss Lausanne on October 15.
