Lavrov says many US officials sought to ruin deal on Syria from the start

According to the Russian foreign minister, the adversaries of the agreements are now "hatching military scenario plans" in Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has noted that many officials in the US administration sought to ruin the deal with Russia on Syria from the very beginning.

"Regrettably, from the very begging there have been many of those, including in the US administration, seeking to break down these agreements," he said. "And it is still more regrettable that those who are against political settlement of the Syrian crisis, against the implementation of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and who are openly seeking to employ a force scenario ultimately managed to do that yesterday."

The minister stressed that Russia didn't give up after the US decision and it would continue efforts to settle the Syrian crisis within the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) and the UN Security Council. He said that the crisis can be resolved only by joint efforts, otherwise everything would come down to attempts of military scenario.

"We believe that this crisis can be resolved only collectively, only together - with the US and Europe, and all the key countries of the region," Lavrov said.

"Otherwise this is an attempt to again create conditions for a forceful scenario. This is unacceptable for the countries of the region and normal politicians in the modern world," Lavrov said.

Lavrov pointed out that the US had failed to implement its liabilities on separation of the opposition from terrorists in Syria and unblocking Castello Road in Aleppo.

"Due to internal contradictions, the United States has turned to be unable to implement its liabilities under out agreements not only in what concerns separation of the so-called moderate opposition from Jabhat al-Nusra [a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia - TASS] but also in what concerns the extremely clear, concrete liabilities on unblocking Castello Road as a major route to solve Aleppo’s humanitarian problems," he said. "It is regrettable and deplorable."
