MOSCOW, September 26 /TASS/. The remarks made by U.S. diplomats at United Nations Security Council meetings undermine the significance of this United Nations body, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 television news channel.

"It is always easy to stage a show at the Security Council. But this is a structure, which deals with extremely important issues and makes serious decisions. What the U.S. side is doing at the United Nations Security Council is simply devaluating the importance of this body," the Russian diplomat said.

Zakharova explained Washington’s behavior by the fact that the United States is incapable of meeting its commitments on the Syrian peace settlement and has to switch over to undiplomatic methods in communicating with the Russian side.

"The United States took on a commitment (to separate terrorists from the opposition) and has failed to fulfil it. As we understand, there is no chance to make it do that," Zakharova said adding that was one of the reasons behind the U.S. totally undiplomatic behavior at the Security Council," Zakharova added.

On September 19, a joint aid convoy sent by the United Nations and the Syrian Red Crescent Society was attacked near Aleppo. Twenty people were reported to be killed. The U.S. authorities claimed that the convoy had been attacked from air. The Russian Defense Ministry said in turn that a Predator drone, which is capable of hitting ground targets and which is used by the U.S.-led anti-terrorism coalition, had been seen in the aid convoy attack area.

The United Nations Security Council discussed the situation in Aleppo at its meeting on September 25. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said the actions supported and undertaken by Russia were barbaric rather than anti-terrorist.
