Lavrov urges US to fulfill vow to separate Syrian opposition, terrorists

The Russian foreign minister says the US should implement the promise made in January

MOSCOW, August 25. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called on the United States to stand by its promise to separate the opposition from terrorist groups in Syria.

"They had better look in the mirror and implement what they have been promising since January - detach the opposition that they consider to be loyal from the terrorists. They cannot do this. Either they cannot or they do not want to do this," Lavrov explained to reporters.

"They should better look at themselves," Lavrov told reporters.

Over the past six months, Russia has been calling on the US to separate the so-called moderate Syrian opposition that enjoys the West’s support and terrorists of the Islamic State and Jabhat Al-Nusra groups. Lavrov has stated many times that UN Security Council’s Resolution 2254 passed in December 2015 says that the ceasefire does not apply to these terrorist groups.
