Russian Defense Ministry to discuss deploying troops on Kuril Islands

The board of the Russian Defense Ministry will discuss the prospects for the troops' deployment and development of the system of early warnings on missile attacks

MOSCOW, August 23. /TASS/. The board of the Russian Defense Ministry chaired by Minister Sergei Shoigu is expected to discuss the prospects for deployment of troops on the Kuril Islands and a number of other issues, the ministry’s press service said.

"In line with the agenda, members of the Board will discuss the plan for activities of the Eastern Military District in the years 2016 through to 2020 with accounts of the prospects of deploying troops on the Kuril Islands and the plan of operations of the Airborne Troops from 2016 through 2020," the report said.

The participants will discuss development of the system of early warnings on missile attacks.

"The agenda also includes improvements in the structure of the military police and endorsement of standards for Defense Ministry’s facilities and installations," the press service said.
