Eight ceasefire violations reported in Syria in past day

More than 20 tons of United Nations humanitarian cargoes were dropped from a Russian plane to the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor besieged by terrorists

MOSCOW, August 11. /TASS/. The ceasefire regime has been generally observed over the day in most of Syria’s provinces, with eight violations reported through the country of which were in the provinces of Damascus, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily news bulletin posted on the Russian defense ministry’s website on Wednesday.

"Units of the Jaysh al-Islam group which affiliates itself with the opposition conducted mortar fire at the settlements of Jobar, Haush-Nasri, Douma, Kabune, Arbil, Harasta and Nashabiya in the province of Damascus," the center said. "Militants of the Ahrar al-Sham armed group shelled the Shillif Castle in the province of Latakia."

No air strikes were delivered by the Russian air group and the Syrian air force at armed opposition group which have declared cessation of hostilities and informed the Russian or U.S. reconciliation centers about their locations, the bulletin says.

Apart from that, according to the bulletin, groups constituting the international terrorist organizations Jabhat al-Nusra and Islamic State (both outlawed in Russia) continue attempts to break down the regime of cessation of hostilities.

"During the day, terrorists conducted fire from home-made artillery systems and mortars at Aleppo’s districts of Hai al-Antar, Hai al-Ansar and Leramon, gas and cement plants, the al-Nayrab airport and the Castello trade center. Terrorists also shelled the settlements of Abd Beinuri, Huteita al-Jarash, Khan al-Shih, and Bakhariya in the province of Damascus, the settlements of Rois Shem, Qabuh and the area around the Tubal castle, and the settlement of Fua in the province of Idlib," the center said.

A ceasefire regime brokered by Russia and the United States on February 22 officially came into effect in Syria at midnight Damascus time on February 27. This does not cover terrorist groups such as Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra, both outlawed in Russia, and other groups recognized as terrorist by the United Nations Security Council.

An hour before the ceasefire came into force, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution in support cessation of hostilities in Syria. The document was initiated by Russia and the United States and won support from all the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council.

The Russian reconciliation center aims to assist armed groups in Syria in concluding ceasefire agreements, maintain the truce regime, control its observance and organize the delivery of humanitarian cargoes to civilians.

UN humanitarian cargoes

More than 20 tons of United Nations humanitarian cargoes were dropped from a Russian plane to the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor besieged by terrorists and four tons of relief aid were delivered to people living in the provinces of Latakia and Homs.

"Two tons of humanitarian cargoes, were delivered to low-income families the settlement of Slayeb al-Turkman in the province of Latakia. Two more tons of humanitarian cargoes, mostly flour were delivered to the city of Homs. A total of 21 tons of United Nations humanitarian cargoes - cereals and melted butter were dropped from a Russian Abakan Air plane to the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor besieged by Islamic State terrorists," the center said.

Apart from that, school kits were distributed among children at the school Akrama Mahzimiya in the city of Homs which was damaged in terrorist attacks, as follows from the bulletin.

According to the Russian reconciliation center, the humanitarian situation in Aleppo’s western neighborhoods is stabilizing and is under control of the Syrian government. "As many as 210 centers serving hot meals and handing out daily essentials have been organized in Aleppo’s western part for civilians leaving the city’s districts controlled by armed terrorist groups," the bulletin says.

Due to the intensification of combat operations in Aleppo’s southwestern suburbs, food deliveries and civilians’ movements are carried out along a road via northern and southern towers near the Castello trade center, according to the bulletin.
