Russian senior diplomat holds talks with Syrian opposition politician - ministry

They pointed out that consolidated international efforts should be stepped up in implementing Resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council

MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Presidential Special Representative in the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov held talks on Saturday with Syrian politician Qadri Jamil, a leader of the opposition Popular Front for Change and Liberation. The talks focused on the necessity of an effective struggle against terrorist groups fighting in Syria, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.

"During the talks (Bogdanov and Jamil) had a broad exchange of views on the developing military, political and humanitarian situation in Syria, with focus on an effective struggle against the terrorist groups fighting in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic," the ministry said.

"Along with this, (they) pointed out that consolidated international efforts should be stepped up in implementing Resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council and that an inclusive negotiating process under the UN auspices should be promoted for the purpose," it said.
