MOSCOW, August 2. /TASS/. Moscow calls for delivering air strikes at positions of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization (banned in Russia) in strict accordance with international law, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Russia has always stressed the importance of decisive actions aimed at destroying ISIL (former name of IS) and other terrorist groups, no matter where they are, in strict accordance with the norms of international law," the ministry said. "At the same time, we consider it principally important to establish close coordination of efforts of all countries fighting against terrorism," the ministry added.

The foreign ministry noted that US military operation in Libya was carried out on the request of the Presidential Council of Libya headed by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also called on all political forces in Libya to demonstrate wisdom and overcome internal disagreements in the interests of country’s citizens. "This will allow to continue the political process launcher in the Moroccan city of Skhirat that envisages forming state institutions, including army and police; ensuring security, law and order in Libya; effectively countering the terrorist threat," the foreign ministry added.

On August 1 Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said in a statement: "Today, at the request of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), the United States military conducted precision air strikes against ISIL targets in Sirte, Libya, to support GNA-affiliated forces seeking to defeat ISIL in its primary stronghold in Libya.".
