Russian, Bruneian foreign ministers discuss bilateral ties, regional affairs

MOSCOW, July 25. /TASS/. Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov met the second foreign minister and trade minister of Brunei, Lim Jock Seng, in Laos on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The talks were held on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings.

"The sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation within the framework of the agreements, reached at the talks between the Russian president and Sultan of Brunei on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN summit in Sochi held on May 19," the foreign ministry said.

The two ministers "highlighted similar approaches of the two countries to the current issues on the regional agenda," the ministry said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in a Russia-ASEAN ministerial meeting in Vientiane later on Monday. On July 26, he will participate in a meeting of foreign ministers of the East Asia Summit and a regular session of the ASEAN regional security forum.

He will meet with his counterparts from the Asia-Pacific countries, including US Secretary of State John Kerry.
