Brexit not to affect Russia - legislator

"Moscow has a purely academic interest to it," Alexei Pushkov twitted

MOSCOW, June 19. /TASS/. Head of the Russian parliament’s foreign relations committee Alexei Pushkov says the UK’s possible quitting the European Union would not affect Russia.

He says Moscow has an academic interest to the upcoming referendum.

"Why is London adding pressure: Russia is neither winning nor losing in case of Brexit," he twitted on Sunday. "Moscow has a purely academic interest to it."

On June 23, the United Kingdom will hold the EU referendum. The British voters will be offered to answer the question, "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?" It will be the third nationwide plebiscite in the country’s history. In 1975, the British voters backed the UK’s membership in the European Economic Community (EEC). In 2011, a vote was held on changing the country’s voting system.
