MOSCOW, June 9. /TASS/. Contacts between youths of Russia and Germany continue to maintain positive dynamics despite the uneasy situation in Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday.

"Contacts between representatives of the youth are an important part of the dialogue. It is good that they maintain positive dynamics and continue to develop," Lavrov said addressing participants in the Russian-German Year of Youth Exchanges.

"Such cooperation is especially relevant today, in connection with the current turbulent situation in Europe," the foreign minister said.

"We hope that the extensive program in the framework of the Year (of Youth Exchanges) will facilitate maintaining trust between the peoples. In the foreseeable future, the youth will have to take responsibility for building relations between our countries," he added.

The Russian-German Year of Youth Exchanges will take place in 2016-2017 under the patronage of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. In a joint statement released earlier, the foreign minister stressed that "developing and strengthening bilateral youth cooperation as a reliable basis for Russian-German relations is a common priority for Russia and Germany."
