Russian defense minister to discuss cooperation with Turkmen leader

The ministry's spokesman says international and regional security, defense technologies and their mutually beneficial intensification are on the agenda

ASHGABAT, June 8. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has arrived on an official visit in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, Gen Igor Konashenkov, the ministry’s official spokesman told reporters.

"The itinerary of the visit envisions a meeting with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow and a working meeting with Colonel-General Yaylym Berdiyev," he said.

"In the course of the talks, Sergei Shoigu will discuss the problems of international and regional security, the pressing problems of bilateral cooperation in the military sphere and in defense technologies and their mutually beneficial intensification," Gen Konashenkov said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Shoigu took part in a conference of Defense Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. He also had talks there with Kazakhstani Defense Minister Imangali Tasmagambetov.
