Three ceasefire violations reported in Syria in past day - Russian reconciliation center

MOSCOW, June 7. /TASS/. The ceasefire regime has been generally observed in most of Syria’s provinces, with three violations reported in the province of Damascus in the past day, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily news bulletin posted on the Russian defense ministry’s website on Tuesday.

"Units of the Jaysh al-Islam group which aligns itself with the opposition conducted mortar fire at positions of the Syrian government army in the settlements of Jobar, Meida and Arbil," the center said.

"No air strikes were delivered by the Russian air group and the Syrian air force at armed opposition group which have declared cessation of hostilities and referred their coordinates to the Russian or U.S. reconciliation centers," according to the bulletin.

Groups constituting the international terrorist organization Jabhat Al Nusra (outlawed in Russia) are continuing provocation aimed at disrupt the regime of cessation of hostilities, as follows from the bulletin. Despite the Moslem holy month of Ramadan that started on Monday, terrorist groups continued shelling of residential quarters in Syrian populated localities, positions of the Syrian government army and Kurdish militias. Civilian casualties continue to grow.

Terrorists shelled the settlements of Ain Al-Qantara, Ard al-Wata and Hanur Takhtani in the province of Latakia, the settlement of Fua in the province of Idlib, the settlement of Skalbiya and a check point of the Syrian army near the settlement of Suran in the province of Hama, the villages of Bleliye and Marj-Sultan in the province of Damascus. In the province of Aleppo, Jabhat Al Nusra gunmen opened fire from multiple missile launcher systems and mortars at the settlements of Al-Hamraa and Qarasi. Aleppo’s districts of Sheikh Maksoud, Meydan, al-Khalidiya and Amriya came under shelling several times. Apart from that, terrorists shelled Aleppo’s district of Makanis al-Duwairi from multiple missile launcher systems, artillery systems and mortars from the settlement of Kafer Hamra.

During the day, Jabhat Al Nusra groups continued attacks on positions of Syrian government troops in Aleppo’s northeastern, northwestern and southwestern suburbs. All the attacks were repelled. Terrorists sustained considerable losses.

A convoy of trucks with armed guards was observed transporting weapons and munitions in Aleppo’s northeast. The convoy was moving from the Turkish border across the territory controlled by various armed groups and reached a locality controlled by Islamic State (a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia).

A ceasefire regime brokered by Russia and the United States on February 22 officially came into effect in Syria at midnight Damascus time on February 27. This does not cover terrorist groups such as Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra, both outlawed in Russia, and other groups recognized as terrorist by the United Nations Security Council.

An hour before the ceasefire came into force, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution in support cessation of hostilities in Syria. The document was initiated by Russia and the United States and won support from all the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council.

More reconciliation agreements reached with Syrian settlements

More reconciliations agreements have been reached with representatives of a number of Syrian populated localities and another batch of humanitarian aid has been delivered to Syrian population in the past day, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria said in its regular daily news bulletin posted on the Russian defense ministry’s website on Tuesday.

"Reconciliation agreements were signed with representatives of two settlements in the province of Homs," the center said.

Thus, the number of settlements joining the reconciliation process has reached 138, as follow from the bulletin.

"The number illegal armed groups that declared their commitment to the ceasefire terms remains unchanged - 60," the bulletin said.

Humanitarian aid

More humanitarian convoys are being formed for Syrian citizens, as follows from the bulletin.

"A total of 21 tons of humanitarian cargoes, mostly flour, food products and sweets for children, were delivered to a camp for internally displaced persons in the settlement of Masyaf in the province of Hama. Doctors of the Russian reconciliation center offered mediacl services to 83 local residents, including 29 children," the bulletin said.

"One ton of humanitarian cargoes was delivered to the settlement of Abu Sfita in the province of Aleppo and one ton was delivered to a camp for internally displaced persons in the village of Teir Maala in the province of Homs," the Russian center said. A plane of a Russian airline dropped 18.3 tons of United Nations humanitarian cargoes, primarily food products and cereals, to the city of Deir ez-Zor besieged by Islamic State terrorists.

The Russian reconciliation center aims to assist armed groups in Syria in concluding ceasefire agreements, maintain the truce regime, control its observance and organize the delivery of humanitarian cargoes to civilians.
