Sergei Shoigu arrives in Kazakhstan to meet with his counterparts from SCO countries

During his stay in Kazakhstan, the Russian defense minister will have a bilateral meeting with his Kazakh counterpart to discuss issues of military cooperation between the two countries

ASTANA, June 7. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has arrived in Kazakhstan to take part in a meeting of defense ministers of member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) due to take place in Astana on June 8, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Tuesday.

"Participants in the meeting are expected to exchange views on current issues of international and regional security, to outline ways to consolidate efforts to provide adequate response to new challenges and threats in the zone of responsibility of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," he said.

Apart from that, the meeting will address practical aspects of the preparations from joint anti-terrorist drills Peace Mission-2016 due to be held in Kyrgyzstan in September. The SCO defense ministers will also analyze results of cooperation in the past year and will discuss cooperation between defense ministries of the SCO countries, Konashenkov said.

The meeting will be attended by delegations from six SCO countries, namely Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and by officials from the SCO secretariat and the SCO anti-terrorist structure.

During his stay in Kazakhstan, the Russian defense minister will have a bilateral meeting with his Kazakh counterpart to discuss issues of military and military technical cooperation between the two countries.
