SOCHI, May 20. /TASS/. The second day of Russia-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit has started in Sochi. Russian President Vladimir Putin has met the leaders of ASEAN member countries at the congress center of Radisson Blu Resort hotel. After that, they went to the meeting with representatives of Russia-ASEAN Business Forum. Putin, Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and President of Russia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin will make speeches at the event.
The key event today will be the plenary session of the summit devoted to the 20th anniversary of Russia-ASEAN partnership. It will be held under the slogan "Towards Strategic Partnership for the Sake of the Common Good."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that three spheres of integrational processes in ASEAN are of particular interest for Russia. "They include ‘politics and security’, ‘economy’, and social-cultural sphere," Peskov said. The spokesman said all three spheres will be discussed in detail. The dialogue will continue in the framework of the working lunch for heads of delegations. The participants will traditionally take "a family photo" in the end.
On Thursday, the Russian president held separate talks with leaders of ASEAN member countries - Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand. The Philippines is represented by Minister of Science and Technology Mario Montejo.
The main results of the summit will be outlined in the Sochi declaration and comprehensive plan of action for developing cooperation in 2016-2020 which will represent a "roadmap" on medium-term measures to promote cooperation in different spheres.
The results of the summit will be announced by Putin, as a host of the summit, and Prime Minister of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, as this year’s chairman of ASEAN, at a press conference.
